This large antique Norwegian bentwood tine box is dated 1818 and richly decorated in traditional rosemaling. The oval form and carved end posts reflect early 19th century rural Scandinavian craftsmanship.
The lid is hand painted with scrolls and floral motifs in muted green, red, and white, along with initials and the date “1818.” The removable lid slots beneath the carved end posts and has no hinges. The handle is a later replacement.
The surface shows honest antique wear and areas of paint loss. There is a stabilized crack running approximately halfway around the box at mid height. Because of its age and condition, it is best suited as a decorative statement piece rather than for heavy functional use.
A powerful early 19th century Norwegian folk art centerpiece for collectors and heritage interiors.
