This antique Norwegian round bentwood box is beautifully dated 1854 and inscribed with the initials “M.O.D.” and the place name “Nygaard.” Such boxes were traditional in rural Norway, used for storage and sometimes given as meaningful gifts.
Crafted in classic round bentwood form, it features hand painted red and blue bands, a fitted lid, carved feet, and handle. The simple painted decoration highlights its strong folk art character.
The surface shows authentic antique patina and age wear. There are historic repairs to the feet, and it appears to be missing a red painted ring on the top, consistent with its long history.
A rare mid 19th century Scandinavian folk art piece, ideal for collectors and lovers of rustic Nordic interiors.
