This is an antique Norwegian oval bentwood box, dated 1845, with hand painted folk art decoration. The box is inscribed with the year “1845” and initials on the front, making it a personal historical piece. The surface shows floral painted motifs in blue, red, and white tones. While the construction is original to the mid-19th century, the painted decoration is secondary, added later in. The box retains its fitted lid with wooden uprights and an wooden handle, typical of rural Norwegian tine craftsmanship.
