A magnificent Danish Viking ship centerpiece bowl from the early 1900s, crafted by the renowned Astral company and bearing their "Eneret" trademark along with the Danish two tower hallmark. This exceptional piece represents the height of Scandinavian decorative metalwork from the Art Nouveau period when Viking revival design was at its peak.
The silver plated longship is meticulously detailed with an ornate dragon head prow featuring carved scrollwork and a matching elaborate tail at the stern, both rising dramatically from the hull. Along the gunwale runs a row of nine decorative shield bosses, each individually crafted with central studs, evoking the iconic imagery of Viking longships with shields mounted along their sides. The hull itself features ribbed planking detail that captures the clinker-built construction of authentic Norse vessels.
A particularly valuable feature is the inclusion of the original hand blown glass liner that sits within the ship hull. This clear glass insert from the early 1900s is itself a collectible piece, as hand blown glass of this era displays the subtle irregularities and quality that distinguish it from modern production glass. The combination of silver plate and hand crafted glass makes this a dual-material treasure.
The entire ship rests on an elaborate stand with ornate feet, allowing the vessel to display prominently as a striking centerpiece. The stand shows characteristic early 20th century Danish metalwork styling with decorative elements that complement the Viking theme.
Stamped on the base with "Eneret" (meaning trademark), "Astral" (the maker), the Danish two tower mark indicating Copenhagen/Denmark origin, and additional maker's marks including what appears to be "W".
