Dating to the 19th century, this rare Norwegian tutekanne is a substantial handcrafted wooden pouring vessel with exceptional folk character. Its cylindrical body is assembled from individual wood staves and secured by multiple pale bentwood hoops. A long natural branch spout, sculptural dark wood handle, and fitted lid with a traditional wooden catch complete its distinctive form.
Vessels of this type were traditionally used in rural Norwegian households for serving ale or water. The visible joinery, hand-shaped components, irregular wood grain, and practical construction preserve the character of genuine Scandinavian country craftsmanship. Generations of handling and use have created a warm honey-brown surface with a deep, naturally developed patina.
With its unusual silhouette and strong historical presence, this tutekanne makes a striking decorative object for collectors of Norwegian folk art, primitive antiques, historic woodenware, and Scandinavian rural craftsmanship. It would display beautifully in a farmhouse kitchen, rustic cabin interior, or curated collection of early European wooden vessels.
