Antique Norwegian Karveskurd Chest | 1910s Hand Carved Geometric Wood Box | Domed Lid Scandinavian Folk Art Keepsake Jewelry Storage Box

Dating from the 1910s–1920s, this antique Norwegian wooden chest is a charming example of traditional Scandinavian folk craftsmanship. Its compact form, curved domed lid, warm aged surface, and decorative metal keyhole plate give it the appearance of a miniature folk art trunk.

The chest is richly decorated with hand-carved Norwegian karveskurd patterns across the lid, front, back, and both sides. Geometric borders surround sunburst rosettes, stars, diamonds, and triangular chip-carved motifs. Raised on four short feet, the box opens to reveal a simple wooden interior and can be displayed as a decorative antique or used for jewelry, letters, keepsakes, and other small treasures.

The chest remains in good antique condition considering its age, with authentic surface wear, scratches, marks, color variation, and a well-developed patina. The lock is incomplete because one of its components is missing and should therefore be regarded as nonfunctional. There is an old glued repair to the lid and a small area of missing wood along one side, as shown in the photographs.
