An ornate piece of Norwegian Tramp Art, dated 1895 on the reverse. Layered, notched borders combine with intricate pierced woodwork, carved leaves and floral motifs, creating a richly decorated composition in dark wood with silver-plated accents.
The tall pointed back rises above a hinged box, with a round central ornament framed by delicate metal foliage. Pocket watch chains and necklaces can be draped around the pointed top, allowing a pocket watch to rest against the round support below.
The lid features a crowned M monogram surrounded by layered leaf decoration. Inside, green fabric, decorative cord trim and metal studs frame a name ornament beneath the lid. The reverse carries the carved date 1895, a wheel motif and incised floral designs. Silver-plated lion feet complete the base.
