Antique Norwegian Painted Bentwood Box - 1890s Floral Folk Art in Os Rosemaling Style
$209.30 $299.00
A Norwegian bentwood box from the 1890s, hand-painted with floral decoration in the Os rosemaling style. Cream and muted pink flowers with green foliage stand out against a dark background, with a contrasting striped border around the shaped lid.
The elongated lid has a central arched wooden handle and fits over two upright wooden end posts. It can be removed completely to reveal the natural wood interior. A handwritten inscription underneath includes the clearly legible word “Bergen”; the remaining wording is unclear.
